Pianos and keyboards have a physical difference when you look, listen, and play on them. A piano is an acoustic instrument, it produces the sound by hammering strings so it’s considered a string instrument. The piano has more keys than a keyboard and the keys are heavier because of the hammers. For a keyboard to make sound it either needs batteries or it needs to be connected to electricity. The keyboard has a variety of sounds of other instruments.

The piano belongs to the percussive chordophone family related to the harp because they both have strings stretching from one point to the other. However the keyboard is an electric instrument meaning it belongs to that family. Almost any song you play on a piano can be replicated on a keyboard.

Chokey in real life

Hello,

After watching Matilda the musical in music class, we are designing and describing our own chokey!

This is what mine looks like:

As you can see it is in the shape of a person with their arms straight out and legs apart. Inside there are sharp shards of glass sticking out of the walls, if you dare touch the glass you will turn on the shower head and it will pour all over you. If you are lucky, the shower head will turn off midway. There are needles inside that are basically alive, the closer you go to it the closer the needles will go to you, touching will be a bad idea, you would most likely get injected. You better have strong arms and legs to hold them up for a long time!

Cybersmart challenge

Hello,

Today our class took on a challenge to use google drawings and make a fish using the tools. Since I don’t use google drawings often, it was fun. I used the shapes that were given and changed the colors and made my fish purple, I have to be honest I forgot what a fish looked like.

Matilda the musical

Hello,

For music class we are making up our own musicals, but before we do that we watched Matilda the musical on Netflix as an example.

In the movie, the main character is a girl named matilda who has parents that don’t care about her and insist that she is a boy. Her parents even forgot to enroll her in a school however Matilda is naturally intelligent, being able to read adult books at a young age. One of her father’s clients was a school principal and offered her a spot at the school but Matilda’s father gave the principal Miss Trunchbull the description that she misbehaves and is naughty. On the first day of school Matilda realises Miss Trunchbull is evil and thinks that children are maggots. During her time at school, Matilda meets her kind hearted teacher Miss Honey and finds out that she has telekinesis. She used her powers as an advantage in order for Miss Honey to get her house and school back that Miss Trunchbull stole.

One of my favourite characters was Hortensia or the girl with the red beret. In the movie, she warns the new students about things like chokey and the things you want to watch out for.

My favourite song in matilda was “revolting children” I’m pretty sure it was the last song in the movie. The song is about children acting like their age and is the song of the happy ending.

musicals

Hello,

This semester we have music class. For this term we are learning about different types of musicals and we will be doing our own.. If you don’t know what a musical is, it’s a theatrical performance that mainly involves music and singing with a combination of dancing and acting.

  • ‘Frozen’ the musical

‘Frozen’ is actually a disney movie but it can also be a musical. The musical is about Elsa the newly crowned queen of arendelle accidentally using her ice powers against others and results in her running away and hiding in her ice palace that she made. Her sister princess Anna goes on a journey to find her sister along with a talking snowman that she found on her way and with an iceman and his reindeer that she met in a store.

  • Aladdin

The musical Aladdin is also a disney movie about a boy named Aladdin who is a thief, that falls in love with Princess Jasmine. Unfortunately he isn’t a prince so he doesn’t have a chance with her, however one day he found a genie that gives you 3 wishes but you can’t make someone fall in love with you…

  • Matilda

Matilda is a popular musical and book by Roald Dahl. The original story is about an intelligent young girl named Matilda Wormwood. Her evil parents prevent her from going to school until her father sells a car to a wicked principal. When Matilda is enrolled in her very strict school she soon discovers that she is gifted with telekinesis.

Kiwi Kids News

Hello,

In my homeroom class, we are looking at the news source Kiwi Kids News. After reading an article, there were questions to answer. The article about the Football Ferns or the New Zealand Women’s Football team, caught my eye because I watched it last night.

RECALL QUESTIONS

1. Who is the main person or group of people in this news article?

The main group of people in the article were the Football Ferns.

2. What was the key event from the news article?

The key event in the article was about the Football Ferns pushing hard in the FIFA world cup to get into the knockout stage.

3. Where did this event take place?

The football match took place at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin.

4. When did this event take place?

The event took place on the 30th July, kickoff was at 7pm.

THINKING QUESTIONS

1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?

There wasn’t a main person in the article but I liked when it said “Their spirited performances will be etched in the memories of fans worldwide” even though the football Ferns didn’t win to get into the knockout stage, they still tried their best.

2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.

In this article, the football ferns were up against Switzerland’s women’s football team in the FIFA world cup. The Swiss team had five points however the Football Ferns had four. For the football Ferns to get into the knockout stage they absolutely had to win the game. Luck wasn’t on the Football Ferns side so the game ended up being a draw 0-0.

3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.

The event took place in the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, as it is the third largest stadium in New Zealand.

4. Explain in your own words why this event took place.

This event took place because of the Women’s FIFA World cup and New Zealand and Australia are hosting it.

What learnt in maths week one

Hello,

I made a DLO (digital learning objective) on what I learnt this week. I learnt how to divide and multiply decimals, those were pretty easy to do it was like revision but with a slight change. I also did work on finding a missing angle which was very easy and I got the worksheet finished in a few minutes.

TED talk on growth mindset

Hello,

Did you know having different mindsets have different impacts on the things you do. There are two types of mindsets growth and fixed mindsets, a fixed mindset is not what you want. A fixed mindset prevents you from trying things out of your comfort zone and you stay at the level you think you can do. However having a growth mindset will help you improve on things and give things a go, you will achieve more with this kind of mindset.

We are learning how we can improve on having a growth mindset. We watched some videos by TED talks on youtube about speeches on mindsets and what that person achieved and that is what I learned.
